Recording and replaying sound has gone through major development but seems to be making its way back into popular interest in the form of vinyl. This player is a 78 rpm gramophone that operates from the winding of an internal spring loaded crank. The horn has been made from a newly developed material, carbon fiber, replacing the traditional paper mache. I have created a contrast of materials composing the horn by gold leafing the interior of a carbon fiber form to reference a traditional method of decoration by veneering a material that presently is accepted as valuable with a material that was once considered elite. I aim to bring into focus the value society puts on materials and style, both currently and traditionally.
